HAPPINESS: OTHER SIDE OF THE RAINBOW -- FOR WRITERS

OTHER SIDE OF THE RAINBOW -- FOR WRITERS

March 02, 2019 in Essay

How will I know when I have made it to the other side of the rainbow, some days I just feel like giving up? Ever been there? Have you ever wondered “Where the Hell is That Rainbow!”

Sunset in Kentucky
Many of us know the feeling of “hitting a wall” and you wonder what the best way is to get past them. I can tell you from experience that there will always be walls and there will always be a way to get past, over or around them.

One way people think of getting past their challenges is to take a break. They think that getting away and changing direction is the best course of action. Only you can know when it is necessary to make a big change, but there is something to say about not giving up.

You need to be consistent with your writing and loyal to your audience. When you think the answer is to leave, you will find that your problems just go with you or they are still there are there when you get back.

What works best is to push past the blocks and simply write. There will be times when the words write themselves and magically appear on the page and you end up with satisfaction, but when you are discouraged or too chaotic to write, that’s when you should sit yourself down and do some free writing. Just let it flow out. Get into it with the mindset that you may throw away the first few minutes of writing, but you need to start by putting pen to paper or fingers on the keyboard. Then allow yourself to be amazed at what starts coming out. Maybe it is a short blog post or some characters who want to be part of your storyline. Anything is possible.

Look at it this way. If you are a writer, author or an author wannabe, you are also a business owner. Yes, you are in the business of writing for an audience, keeping the attention of your audience and giving your fans what they crave. You must learn to think like a business owner, besides being a writer, you must sell yourself and learn to get to know your audience and get your work noticed. Even writers with large advances or book deals need to stay focused on writing content that will continue to delight their fans.

Success Coach Joy Writers Program

Four solid facts to get to the other side of the rainbow for writers.

1. Stay committed to your writing. don’t completely change directions. Go past the grind phase; stick with it. You can completely overcome any blocks by writing. You can create success with consistency. Just keep writing.

2. Innovate to get better results. Offer your audience something that goes along with your book such as a writing group, writing coaching or even book review barters. Anything you can do to keep your name and message in front of your target audience is something else you can use to build your fan base. Add a short story or e-book with information which will educate as well as entertain your offerings so your fans can meet you and find out about your full body of work.

3. Mastermind with others. Find a way to communicate with other writers, published authors or wannabees. Attend book signings locally or attend book launches online.

Start a book discussion club to find out what your target audience wants and needs. Pay attention to what other authors and writers are doing. Authors today are marketing and pre-selling even before their book is finished. You will find creative ways of reaching your audience and possibly find collaboration with other authors.

4. Meditation or Visualizing Your Success. I’ve done it again, I cannot write an article without mentioning the benefit of quiet reflection, spending time in nature or taking the time to visualize the people you can help with your writing. Visualize what your life will be like when you hold your completed book in your hands and are selling it on Amazon and at your local bookstore. It only takes a few minutes to visualize success.

Now, about that vacation to the other side of the rainbow?

Ohio Sunset
I love to work with writing clients who describe “why” they want to write and why they want to be a published author.

There are people who are driven to write and must write for a variety of reasons. But, if you are looking at writing as a career, you probably have figured that you can pick up your supplies, paper or laptop, and write anywhere. You can write on the road while offering book signings or write while sightseeing or visiting family.

Since that is true, don’t think of the other side of the rainbow as a destination to get to someday. Don’t think of it as a distraction to help you get away and come back fresh. Think of the other side of the rainbow as somewhere you go during some part of every day. It is the “me time” all of us deserve. It might be a trip and a well-deserved “getaway” or “vacation” but remember that you are a writer no matter where you are.

When you are doing what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life. Work feels like play.

So, take that vacation whenever you are ready. Spend some time in a different part of the country, or a different country, but remember that taking a trip can be as simple as an afternoon on your deck or the park or can be as complex as a cruise and a visit to a foreign land. Remember, the prize is to enjoy the journey and not become focused on the destination as the only thing that will bring you satisfaction.

HAPPINESS: Published in "What We Love"

"What We Love", Featuring Joy Harris

Published in "What We Love"

Recently, I took part in a collaborative project where 100 writers submitted articles on LOVE!  Part of submitting an entry to a writing contest, anthology or collaborative book, is to follow the guidelines.  The guidelines generally consist of a theme and a word count.  For me, the biggest challenge is to follow the prompt and write to the theme in the allotted number of words, and no more.

You can download the e-book from Amazon.  For those who do not read e-books online, you can read my entry below.  Thanks!

Love Is the Answer!

“Only love can break a heart, only love can mend it again.” ~ Hal David

While working with me, it is not long before clients hear “Love is always the answer, no matter what the question is.” I strongly advise coaching clients to feel love, express love and let love in.

One client replied, “Love will get you nowhere!” Clearly, she could use a dose of unconditional love. I later learned that she went through a breakup and was soured on relationship love.

During our time together, I learned she loved her dog. She loved her parents and cousins and called several older women in her life “aunt” even though they were not blood relatives. They were there for her during childhood and caused her to know how to give love and receive love. Those are precious lessons.

Together we learned she loved trees, birds and all of nature. She loved watching children play and eventually loved journal writing and meditating in the moonlight. Her life was filled with love but she was not acknowledging it. She soon appreciated love in all its forms.

There are many types of love. When you allow yourself to feel deeply, you will discover there is so much to love and your heart will sing with happiness.

WEALTH: Holistic Steps to Heal Your Home Business

Holistic Healing for your business, hmmm, what's that!

While looking at stress management and holistic healing for busy executives, it occurs to me that large corporations offer more holistic approaches to healing individuals and business problems than small and medium-size businesses normally do.
Anderson Sky

My experience in Fortune 100 companies over the past 20 years shows corporations interested in workforce diversity and respect, cooperation in place of competition among team members, and empowering employees to take ownership of their work. Companies pay a lot of attention to stress management to keep the organization functioning at the required fast pace. There are frequent communications to employees, departments, and teams to help them realize their contribution, their tiny cog, is IMPERATIVE to the success of the company overall.

The best corporations participate in "bring your daughter to work day", have family picnics or annual get-togethers, encourage celebration and recognition for work well done. Many companies have private "nursing rooms" and some have chair massage therapists come in for employee appreciation events. Some offer family-friendly policies such as flexible schedules and comp time for traveling.

More and more companies are hiring consultants to implement the use of social media and worker-friendly tools and technology. Corporations are using collaborative software to communicate within teams, companies are implementing department and individual blogs (with similar usage policies as their e-mail policies).  Companies are rolling out team style management training where team members take turns facilitating meetings and developing leadership skills.

Employers are recruiting "risk takers" and people who speak up not just "yes men and women" who may have held a high place in yesterday's companies. Company policies no longer pay out weeks and weeks of vacation time, you are encouraged to take your vacation and get away from the company once and a while.

I have seen employers offer a complete package of personal enrichment workshops because a happy employee is more productive. Both employers and employees see the benefits of employee retention and staying with companies who "care" about the workforce. This is becoming commonplace and will be necessary to retain tomorrow's workforce.

If you are a solopreneur or home-based business, be sure to offer yourself the same benefits as the large corporations. Put some dollars in the budget for self-improvement seminars or outings. Books and DVD's abound on the topics of stress management and studies have proven that a rested and relaxed worker is far more productive than a harried and scattered one.

Take a holistic approach to heal your business: If your business is suffering, take some time out for reflection and give yourself some breathing room. Take some time out to evaluate the health of your business ... diagnose where it has been and where it is going. Don't be afraid to re-structure (even if you are the only employee); the big companies do it all the time. Taking a new, refreshed focus on your business practices can bring about cost savings and renewed enthusiasm for you -- which results in greater profit and new customers.

You could just work harder, faster, but that is the way to a heart attack, not the way to healing yourself and your business.

5 Steps to Healing for Your Business:

1. Analyze what needs healing in your business -- be specific
Processes? Procedures? Growth challenges?  Communication?

2. Research possible treatments to heal your business -- many solutions are available
Document what you are doing right and repeat.  Outsource certain things.  Better software / tools.

3. Plan and Implement 1 or 2 treatments right away -- not too many at once
Begin with one improved process or skill and continue until you master it.

4. Don't give up -- stick with your plans
Continuity is key.  Modify the processes if needed, but don't give up.

5. Take the time to document lessons learned -- learn from previous behavior
Keep a business log with goals and steps to meet goals; document and celebrate achievements.

Take a good look at the ways you can heal your business.

HEALTH: START MEDITATION -- A TIMER CAN HELP

A Timer Can Help

Using a Meditation Timer

When you are first experimenting with meditation, you may only be able to clear your mind for 3 to 5 minutes at a time.

If you use this handy timer, you can build your meditation skills one minute at a time.

One method is to start with 3 minutes set the intention to sit quietly and do not entertain any thoughts.  When you make it a habit to take 6 deep breaths each time you start to quiet your mind.  This will be a signal to your body that you are ready to begin.

Close your eyes, you will see black.  Begin by visualizing a blank place on your forehead that you can use as a dark, empty room between your ears.  Simply set your intentions that you will not entertain any thoughts for 3 or so minutes.

No doubt a stray thought will enter your mind, but simply ignore it and gently usher it out your ears.  Visualize the thought drifting out one of your ears and don't stop to think about it.  When you will hear the sound of your timer, it does not indicate that you should sit up straight and go about your day, it is a gentle reminder that you have met your goal for quiet time.  The timer will remind you to wiggle your toes, begin to move and stretch and gently bring yourself back to awareness of the world out there waiting for you.  When you are ready, you will get back to your day more refreshed.

Increase your meditation time by one minute each time! There is relaxing meditation music online that you may want to play softly while you enjoy this time.

By the time you are up to 15 or 20 minutes -- 3 times a week, you will feel calm and peace as a part of your life.  Each person develops a long term meditation routine, but most people like to practice it daily shortly after they get up.

Experienced in meditation? You may want to set this timer for 20 or more minutes to remind you to get back to work or to get on with your day.  I guarantee meditation will help you stay focused and bring intuitive awareness to you. A meditation timer will help.

Take time out of your busy day for quiet time.

HEALTH: TRY AN "ALLOWING" MEDITATION

Repeat “Allow” into a gentle wind.  One short and easy experience is to practice saying the word "allow" outside in nature.

                             Ohio Winter
I have enjoyed practicing this mediation outdoors many times.  Sit quietly.  When you hear the gentle sway of the tree treetops or any sound of the wind, repeat the word “allow, again allow, allow”.

Allow is the only word you will think.  It keeps mundane thought from coming into your mind and welcomes the experience of allowing.

Ohio Spring
For that short period of meditation time, you are simply allowing the world to be.

No judgment or corrections needed on your part, just allow.

For now, it is what it is, and all is right from where you are seated.

Simply sit in nature and allow.  It helps you to calm down.  There is nothing so pressing right at that moment that you cannot take 10 minutes or so to feel the benefit of allowing.
Ohio Summer
“Even if you locked your keys in your car,
you are not going to do anything about it
for the next few minutes”.

Right Now, You Are Simply Going to Allow

Take your Self away
from the cares of the world.
Simply Allow.

My Patio in Full Bloom

Allow ... Allow ... Allow ...

Allowing is a relaxation period.  It is nice to sit up straight but be comfortable.

Remember it does no one good to be so rigid that you are afraid to move a muscle or cover your mouth when you cough.

Allow until you feel refreshed by the wind.

Let me know when you try this exercise of "Allowing"

WEALTH: WIN-WIN-WIN Everyone Wins

John & Gussie Herbert's Marriage License

Everyone Knows That Winning is Success

No doubt you have heard of a win-win situation where every party feels some degree of success.  A win-win situation or win-win result is described when a conflict is resolved by both parties getting at least part of their original objective while conceding to something in the other parties’ point.  It is thought of as an agreement.  It is an agreement that while you did not get everything you originally wanted, you kept an open mind to see some benefits of the other person’s point and you were successful in getting them to see at least part of your side.  This allows for both sides to gain and not feel as though they conceded and lost everything.  In short, everybody wins.  A good goal is for everyone to compromise but get some success from the final result.

For example, there are business opportunities where two competing resolutions to a problem must settle on a course and agree on how to proceed.  The same situation arises in our home and family life where everyone must state their opinion on how things could be resolved, but there are divergent opinions, and someone must make the final decision.  Normally everyone is competing to get their point across, and everyone wants to get the most out of a negotiation.  It is only when you agree to some type of mediation or agree to have a discussion bent on coming out of it with a solution that you find people willing to accept a win-win.

Steven Covey says in “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” “Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood”.  It is not until you agree to listen to the other person that you can agree to find a compromise or be willing to engage in finding a win-win situation.  In a perfect world, both parties come out of the discussion with their most important points winning.  Both parties have learned the art of compromise and to see another’s viewpoint.  They have entered a cooperative area where they are looking for the solution to be mutually beneficial and yet not have to give up their key desires.  Completely understanding all points of view and favoring the best resolution instead of getting your way is one definition of a win-win.

I have facilitated discussions where the opposing parties did not even seek to understand the other’s position and then found that the other person's opinion was not that disagreeable once they did understand it.  Through a thorough discussion, you have the opportunity to hear what your opinion sounds like when spoken out loud and that allows you to hear someone else’s perspective of how to make something work out.  The goal is to ensure each side comes away with an acceptable outcome and can walk away with the satisfaction that they did “win” in part.

Coming to a win-win solution involves collaboration.  It involves not only thinking through your perspective clearly but putting yourself in someone else’s shoes and imagining the other side’s perspective.  The goal is to learn to be flexible and allow yourself to be open to how the use of cooperation to win over fighting it out endlessly.  The more stubborn, obstinate or competitive person will insist in coming out of a discussion with a win-lose scenario, but open-minded people find happiness in at least having a “small win” and seeing others satisfied with their “small win.”
Success is feeling happiness and satisfaction even during negotiations and compromise.  It is satisfying when you come out of a conflict, dispute or discussion feeling like you got a win.

WIN, WIN, WIN – Everybody wins

Now, let’s talk about win-win-win.  During these conversations and debates, does it ever come up that you must also satisfy an outside entity to get a win, not just the two opposing parties?  If you are looking for an outside win, think of how your final resolution impacts others.  The most obvious example is the environment.  Can you come away with some level of satisfaction for both parties, but also see the win for someone or something else?  Perhaps it is something bigger that can be improved such as the community.  That is the challenge for a win-win-win – success for all impacted.

HAPPINESS: WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL SUCCESSFUL?

MY SUCCESSFUL DAY

I talk a lot about what makes people feel successful.  It comes up with every client that we all start out with dreams when we are young, but many times life gets in the way.

Today is my day to feel successful.  I see my name in print as a contributor to the book "What We Love" and it shows me that I can write and demonstrate follow through.  It helps me to “feel” successful and know that I can accomplish any goal I sent out to complete.

Much of my past is filled with writing.  I spent over a decade editing newsletters for professional organizations.  I wrote and edited many articles and essays for empowering women.  I learned there are so many women who write for fun.  It starts with diary writing and moves to journal writing.  There are paper journals and journals you can keep in an online journal which can be kept private or shared with the world.

Writing can be personal or educational, entertaining or delight your imagination.  Whether you intend to write for the public or not, it is a successful feeling to see your book in print.

There are many reasons to write.  Clients are asked to write out their dreams, their feelings and the goals in the process of taking an amazing journey and feeling successful.  During the process of writing, it generally comes up that they like to write.  Sometimes they want to do more of it.  I truly believe that everyone has a book in them, they just need to get it out.

For those who know they have a book in them, they will need to determine what they want out of becoming an author, they need to find their “why”.  Everyone needs to know the real reason they wanted to write.  There are answers from everything to “I just want to document a part of our family’s story and I will be satisfied if only those close to me ever read it” to “I want to become famous and sell millions of books or make it a part of a series”.  No matter what your “why” is this is the time to make those dreams come true.
Steps to Success
Writing starts with pen on paper on day one or keys on the keyboard.  Once you have decided to write, you just get to writing.

“You can’t edit a blank page”

HAPPINESS: Loving Your Amazing Journey. Start where you are.

In love with Your Amazing Journey called Life.

No matter your age, you have embarked on a journey that will eventually amaze you.  It starts with a home town, a family, a childhood home or many childhood homes and sometimes several families.  I read somewhere that everything we go through is preparing us for where we are now.  One fascinating thing is that we can use our past to have excuses for why we are where we are, but studies show that people with the same background … hometown(s) or families … can take a different path and result in various types of success, or no success at all.

Your Amazing Journey
What I am trying to say is that it is our background that has an impact on who we are but more important than that is the choices we make in life as to where we are on the path to success.

First, we need to assume that everyone wants to be on a journey to success.  Next, we need to assume everyone believes they deserve success or that they believe they can really attain it.  That is where we get to ALLOWING.  Not everyone chooses to allow joy, happiness and unlimited potential to be part of their reality.

It is a pretty tall order to expect coaching to help your journey in the areas of health, wealth AND happiness, but it is a holistic expectation for a well-rounded journey to success.  As you read through the essays here, you will find many similarities with coaches who help you define goals and build a roadmap to your ideal destination.  Here, there is no difference in that.  The difference is the emphasis on the groundwork, the background work of defining a dream, believing you can have it all and then allowing it to happen.

So many people are looking at the obstacles in their lives and realizing that they are their own worst enemy.  We may make many excuses, but it is important to understand that it is a circumstance and an excuse, and we need to move past that.  We need to journey to the place where we expect situations to resolve with grace and ease.  We must expect to come out of a bad situation on the other side where we learned something that can move us forward on our journey.

Steps to Success
Picture life’s journey like on an upward staircase.  Sometimes we can feel the downward momentum and yes, it is important to feel those sad moments of life, but we must move toward the upward spiral.  It is the upward moving momentum where we can place our focus for success.

Believe me when I say the physical, emotional and even spiritual momentum of the upward spiral can change the way you look at life and the way life spins toward you.  Success is allowed, expected, and welcomed on your amazing journey.

Let me know where you are on your journey.

HEALTH: O for the love of Nature

The Awareness of Loving Nature.

Do you go hiking, exploring caves or backpacking through the wilderness for days on end without seeing a car or a single soul?  If you do, you probably already know the love of nature.

This is for those of us who never knew nature and don’t know what they are missing.

Sometimes people say, “when is the last time you stood with your feet planted firmly on the ground?”.  What they mean can be when is the last time you stood up for yourself or someone else or something you believe in.  But, what if they mean when have you stood on the ground, bare feet, right on the ground.  Last summer?  When you were a kid?  Never?

Many of us know what it is like to stand for something, but we do not know what it is like to actually stand with our feet touching grass.  It’s not so much about identifying when we last were barefoot, but about feeling the warmth of the soil, the feel of mud or dirt or the feel of the forest floor?  There is something to say about looking at nature, whether it’s the birds in the trees in a city park or the cliffs and barely visible trails in the woods.  There are actual health benefits to being in nature.

Being outside helps us feel better emotionally if we give it a chance.  Science is proving that nature contributes to our physical wellbeing.  It can help reduce blood pressure, heart rate, muscle tension and the production of stress hormones.

Nature provides us with more than food and water.  It provides us with building material, fiber and is a natural medicine for our bodies.

Spending time in nature is recommended for depression, brooding and other mood disorders.  It can increase our creativity and allow us to feel free.  This can result in opening ourselves to discovering our innermost dreams and sharing those dreams with others.  It allows us to consider really connecting with other people.

It is well known that walking is good for our health but walking outdoors involves our curiosity to combine exercise with awareness of the many ecosystems around us – that of the insects and other animals.  It can inspire painting and other works of art as well as our creativity for expressing ourselves through words flowing like poetry.

Getting in touch with nature can be as simple as exploring your neighborhood or driving to a nature center or park but the feeling of fresh air can’t be bought at a store.  The scent of flowers and plants affects the levels of serotonin and brings about focus, relaxation, and feelings of joy.

Even sitting in nature is better than not.  Walking, hiking, backpacking or serious camping may not be in store for you, but the benefits of being in nature outweigh the known impacts of being sedentary indoors.

How has being in nature impacted you?

HEALTH: Is Sleep a necessary evil?

Do we need sleep for success?

If you love to sleep, you can’t understand why some would call sleep a necessary evil.  I remember hating sleep and I was sleep deprived for many years while I was happily surviving on 5 hours … or less … a night.

Taking a holistic view of finding happiness and success requires that we make some efforts to have improved health.  One of the simplest ways to maintain vitality is to respect sleep.

The Only Place YOU Have to Live
The body has a job to do during the sleeping hours to let it repair damaged tissues, improve memory and boost the immune system.  Most of us care about anti-aging for the skin and controlling body weight, but have you read the research on how sleep is a simple, yet effective way to improve health in those areas and many more.

If you thought the benefits were eliminating bags under the eyes and morning grumpiness, please know that sleep helps heart, mood and brain function.

Sleep helps memory and learning.  While teaching test-taking tips and I learned a technique to retain your study material is to stop studying the night before the test.  Don’t cram and read right before the test, instead stop studying early and get a good night’s sleep.  This allows the information to be stored properly so they can be recalled later when needed.  Your brain is responsible to send signals to the body for physical and involuntary movement.  It also manages problem solving, handwriting, hearing, and memory.

Getting enough sleep is a small price to pay for good health when studies show that your heart will be healthier with 7 to 9 hours of sleep.  Also, honoring the sleep-wake cycle is protection against cancer and other diseases.

When sleep deficient, the body goes into the production of stress hormones increasing blood pressure and the risk for heart attack and stroke.   The stress hormones increase inflammation creating a greater risk for diabetes and depression.   Also, your cells produce more protein during sleep allowing repair from UV rays, toxins, and stress hormones.

Still resisting sleep?  I thought sleep was a waste of time.  I read about inventors or geniuses who needed little sleep, but once I learned how valuable sleep is in causing the body to age, I gained a new respect for it.

Candle Magic
There are many techniques to encourage good sleep habits.  Allowing your body and mind to wind down an hour or so before you go to bed is a proven technique.

Watching TV news before sleep is bad for your health as stories that portray violence are not good relaxers.  If you choose to listen to media before sleep, a good choice is meditation music and nature sounds for calming the mind and body.  Meditation does not replace sleep, but it is focused time to slow down breathing and relax muscles.

Change your relationship with sleep.  Restlessness, insomnia and sleep problems can be healed.  Seek a professional if lack of sleep continues after consciously preparing for sleep before going to bed.

Yes, we need sleep for success.  We need sleep for health.
Take care of your body, it’s the only place you have to live.

HAPPINESS: Success, is there enough for me?

SUCCESS.  There is no lack of success.

How do you define success?  Truth is, success is different for every person.  Everyone must define success for themselves and set about believing that they will achieve it.

The Sky's Not Even the Limit

I have worked with women who defined success as:
  1. Find someone, leave someone, tell someone, ghost someone … find love
  2. Start or Finish the book they know is inside them … release creativity
  3. Get a job, get a better job, start a project … make more money

Everyone is on an amazing life’s journey to success.  There is no shortage of success.  There is plenty there for everyone.  It is not uncommon for someone to tell you about their journey of discovery or self-improvement efforts to meet their goals.   There are weight loss goals, anger management, career goals and hundreds of personal development and financial goals that help to make people feel successful.

I have coached busy women for years who realize they must take time out for themselves to improve their situation.

Step one is making time to think through what success means to you and then allowing that to happen.

I’ll bet you thought I was going to say that once you define what success means, you then need to map out the strategy and exact steps to get there.

Yes, that is one thing that life coaches and coaching programs offer, but my experience tells me that once you know what you really desire and what success looks like to you, it is time to relax, reflect and let success in.  Allow it.  Believe it.  Know you deserve it.

Many are held back by not believing they deserve success.  It’s OK that we have times of doubt, but so many people deflect their success with negative thoughts and feelings.  No matter how you define success you must believe that you deserve it.

My blooming Christmas Cactus
There is no secret that it is a good idea to follow a plan to get to where you want to go but be aware that a lot of time needs to be spent determining if you are ready for success.

Believe that you can live your dreams and success will find you.

My approach is to take time to define what you want and then allow it.  Then take strategic steps.

Baby steps are may be necessary.  Taking time to celebrate even the small wins is mandatory.  Be assured that if anyone, anywhere has been able to achieve success, you can too.

Once you believe and do not hold yourself back, you’ll be surprised at how easily you move through the steps to success.  The sky is not even the limit.

WEALTH: Success, team or individual effort?

Following Your Dream = Full Life Satisfaction

In Matthew Kelly’s 2007 book, The Dream Manager, we learn about the profile of a company, where dream manager is a position in a fictional mid-size company.  Employees can meet regularly with a dream manager to discuss defining their dreams and working toward a plan to “live their dreams.”

Today’s companies expect their employees to be creative and put their ideas to work for the advantage of the company.  Many companies expect people to work together as a team for better productivity, more centralized focus and the motivation to do their job efficiently.

How do they motivate people to be great employees?  They encourage team members by listening to them as individuals.

Following Your Dreams
In The Dream Manager, Matthew Kelly describes employees openly discussing their personal dreams and how to fulfill them.  Employees talk through the importance of finishing their education, buying a house and pursuing creative hobbies.  The dreams do not have to be about climbing the corporate ladder, building a better department or sealing the deal.   The concept of having an assigned dream manager illustrates that people who are happy in their personal life more productive employees.

People have feelings and circumstances and situations which cause them to get distracted, make mistakes or lose focus on the job.  But people who work toward personal goals and have someone to help build a plan, tend to be loyal, contented employees, committed to excellence in their home and work.

There comes a time when you realize you need a team to get your ideas to market, promote your work and sell your products or services.

Challenges occur when your team does not understand working together or focusing on a common goal.

Teamwork is talked about in most companies, big and small, but it is the forward-thinking company who realizes teams are made up of individuals who work better in a cooperative environment where team members are happy.

Many of us do not get close enough to our co-workers to know if they are “living their dream”, but companies who celebrate personal accomplishments and support people taking positive actions are ahead of the pack in getting the most motivation out of their workforce.

The solopreneurs among us are proud to be their own boss and set their own hours.  I have seen many to rise to the top with a home-based business that allows them to set the bar for excellence, set the pace and build income driving projects and campaigns that allow them the financial wealth to live their dreams.  Eventually, they may rely on virtual assistants, graphic artists or webmasters to help keep the pace and achieve the level of excellence they desire.

It is important to know that a little encouragement of everyone on the team or everyone who supports your dream should have and build a dream of their own.

HAPPINESS: Short Heartfelt Meditation

Happiness is contagious.

Some say they have experienced something “heartwarming” and that makes them happy.

Does the heart have the capacity to “warm up” or have its own feelings?

Modern science has proved that there is a healthy coherence between your brain and heart.  In fact, your heart has more capacity to produce feelings than your brain.  Your heart has the strongest electrical and magnetic fields in our body, even stronger than your brain.  Your heart and brain are in constant communication as your heart is sending signals to your brain to communicate with your body.

Our feelings and emotions are creating waves of energy that radiate to a field that is felt throughout our bodies and beyond.  They now have technology that can measure the field of energy around your heart which sends vibrations to your body, the whole room and can be felt all around the world.

A worthy life goal is to “let happiness in”.  Allowing happiness invites more happiness for you and the world.  It is contagious.

Science has identified brain-like cells that are concentrated in the heart that has been dubbed “the little brain in the heart”.  These cells in the heart can learn and think independently from the neurons in the brain and they can remember and communicate with us, even without the brain.

We have been conditioned that only the brain communicates with us but we have learned that by harmonizing the heart and brain we are able to deeply feel compassion, display intuition, and process information more quickly.

Gandi said, “Happiness is when what you think and what you say, and what you do are in harmony”.

It is important to harmonize your heart and brain and it can be accomplished in 3 amazingly simple steps.  Find a comfortable chair and follow along:

  1. Bring your awareness to your heart.  This can be done by placing your hands in the middle of your chest with gentle pressure, using fingertips or palms, it does not matter.
  2. Then slow down your breathing, then slower.  Breathe in through your nose and breathe out through your mouth.  (Taking about 6 deep breaths becomes a signal to your body that you are ready to get in touch with stillness.)  Then just breathe normally.
  3. The next step is to spend a few minutes creating a deep a feeling in the center of your chest.  An example of a deep feeling is compassion, appreciation, gratitude or feeling deep care -- for yourself or others.  Choose one of these deep feelings or any combination of them.  Then return your awareness to your day.
These steps work together to create harmonization between your heart and your brain.  Practice it for a short time daily.  Repeating this exercise helps your overall happiness as it positively impacts aging and immune response along with overall healing.

Let me know your experience with this meditation in the comments below.

WEALTH: Success is your choice

WEALTH:  Career or Entrepreneurship; a coach can help

Women have broken the glass ceiling and have moved into leadership, management, and business ownership.

Some of us are going from no job to a job that barely meets our needs.

Some of us are working but underemployed, with little chance for more hours or more pay.

Success Coach Joy
Hearts
Some of us work at a job that we may “like” but we are working only for the paycheck … trading hours for dollars, but we don’t get the chance to work with “heart.”

If you are looking for improving your present work situation (or creating opportunity) you will need to develop these habits to get noticed by the boss.  Improving these qualities will set you up for a promotion or a raise:

1) speaking up at work demonstrating that your ideas should be developed,
2) building the confidence to secure leadership roles and teamwork qualities and
3) developing rapport with management to display that you are ready for more responsibility.

A Coach Can Help.

Many of us looking for increased income are considering work from home opportunities.  Starting a business allows you the freedom to set our own hours and fire your boss.  It is empowering to work on own goals.

Entrepreneurship is the main way to see income match the effort.  Meaning, no matter how hard we work at our 40 hour a week job, the pay will be the same.  But when we apply ourselves in entrepreneurship… or we take time off … our pay reflects our effort.

That is a benefit of owning your own business.  You will need to develop work efforts that are needed to set off on the business ownership journey.  Improving these qualities will set you up for a loyal, buying audience and an unlimited income:

1) refining your message to your specific audience
2) building a list of interested folks to interact with for future announcements and sales letters or
3) developing your strategies and marketing plan to continue to build your brand online.  Those efforts build your expert status and will eventually pay off, even if you don’t see it now.

Whether you are looking to improve your chances in your present industry or strike out on your own with a part-time or full-time income from working at home, a Success Coach can work with you to build confidence and help with increased wealth.

HEALTH: Instant Stress Relief – 3-min. massage

USING MASSAGE FOR SELF CARE

After a day at a desk writing, studying or working an 8-hour day, it is important to do self-massage for stress relief.  Whether you drive a truck, work in the field or create beauty for a living, we all can benefit from a 3-minute spa moment.  This works.

From My Yard
Begin by taking a few deep breaths.  Breathe in deeply through the nose.  Allow your torso and lungs to fill up with air.  On the exhale, allow your muscles to relax.  Relax your shoulders, then relax your whole body and your face muscles.  If you start with deep breathing every time you begin meditation or relaxation for a spa moment, it is a signal to your body that you are ready to be still and invoke healing.  After about 6 breaths, just breath normally.

Close your eyes, rub your hands together for 30 seconds to warm them up.  When your hands are warm, cup them over your eyes and allow your eyes to be calmed.  Then begin rubbing your temples.  Rub down your jawline.  Also rub your palms, fingers, and hands.  Feel free to use a lotion or moisturizing cream, but it is not necessary.  This is something you can do on the job or anywhere, any time.  This can be done in 2 and a half or 3 minutes.  Do each step to a slow count of 15 to ensure you are allowing enough time to relax and get maximum benefit from this self-massage.
